Technology, Media & Telecommunications – Cable & Satellite: First

    Craig Moffett
    Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.
“He understands the economic structure of the telecom industry better than anyone.”

Atop the sector for a seventh consecutive year is Craig Moffett; the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. analyst also captures second place in Telecom Services. “What makes Craig unique is that he takes a top-down, macro view and is able to highlight key trends and forces that are impacting the industry and the individual companies,” explains one backer. Adds another: “He is one of the most enjoyable reads on the sell side — he writes like a novelist when he wants to.” Moffett, 50, notes that because “the cable sector has enjoyed a very strong rally over the past year, it isn’t as undervalued as it was.” Even so, “the valuations still aren’t challenging, so I suspect the stocks still have a bit further to run,” he adds. Investors continue to benefit from Moffett’s coverage of Time Warner Cable, a New York–based provider of video, high-speed-data and phone services. He broke with the herd back in November 2010 when he issued a valuation-based upgrade on the stock from equal weight to overweight, at $55.23, and he has repeatedly alerted clients to the opportunity. By late August 2012 the stock had sizzled 60.8 percent, to $88.82, and outpaced the Standard & Poor’s 500 sector benchmark by 18.3 percentage points.
