Akiko Kuwahara爬上一个梯级,首次登上了比赛。A 1996 graduate of Tokyo’s Keio University with a bachelor’s degree in economics, Kuwahara joined BofA Merrill Lynch Global Research from Morgan Stanley Japan in September 2009. Soon after, in November 2009, the 37-year-old analyst initiated coverage of Teijin with a buy rating, at ¥248, partly on the strength of the Osaka-based textile producer’s moves to cut costs and improve margins. The stock zipped to ¥416 in early February 2011, a whopping 67.7 percent gain that outperformed the broad market by 57 percentage points, and Kuwahara downgraded it to neutral, on valuation. By the end of that month, Teijin’s shares had slipped 5 percent, to ¥395. In August she upgraded Tokyo’s Toray Industries from neutral to buy, at ¥471, on a recovery of its carbon-fiber business. The stock took off, rising 31.4 percent to end February at ¥619 and besting the broad market by 16 points. “Her recommendations helped our performance,” affirms one grateful portfolio manager.
